This page is only for comments that are related to site itself.
If there is something that doesn't work or something you would correct, post it here. Also development ideas are
welcome.
I think this site needed some commenting system.
Well... Now you are able to talk about those flash files and I hope you'll help me to make those "descriptions" even better than they are right now. So if you know some flash sources (anime, music, etc.) please leave a comment.
System:
"flashname.swf/comments" - only that file
"/flash/comments/" - the whole gallery/site
In principle there isn't any ( ... ) or anything but I will consider to put some warnings.
Still...
I don't think the childrens would pay any attention even if I put warnings.
I can understand that having a Massive list can make things hard to find if you don't quite know what to look for. However if you know the name of the flash you are trying to look for, now you have to search through pages instead of using Ctrl F. Personally I'm not a fan of the multi page. It just makes it slightly harder to find if you know either the time of posting or the name not both.

"Personally I'm not a fan of the multi page. It just makes it slightly harder to find"
Well to be honest... I think just like you.
One single page is much easier if you are looking for some certain flash. Thats why there is still option for "no limits" (at the top of the page).
Anyway. I think that most people appreciate multi page view and some people (with norton) were having problems with that old large listing. Now the page should be viewable to everyone.
I have been looking a way to create those thumbnails on the fly with linux server, but I haven't found any solutions to do it.
Now I have to create all of them in my own computer so if there will be some new flashes without pictures, (don't) blame me.
The latest comments page doesn't filter out swearwords and it escapes apostrophes (e.g. doesn't becomes doesn\'t).
I can't say I like the new site layout too much. It's nice, but no amount of niceness can overcome the low contrast when black text is over a dark brown background.
I also think the box-styled navigation is a waste of space and a bit hard to navigate. If news, navigation and filters are in similar boxes, it takes a considerably longer time to find what you might be looking for.
Just my 2 cents, I'll keep absorbing flash and posting annoying comments even if they go unnoticed.
Next/Prev get stuck when a category is selected. Random still works.
("Stuck" as in next always goes to X, and prev always to Y. Eg: in anime it's always lolicatgirls_anime.swf/animedoor.swf. First and the last?)
Sometimes (maybe after changing the sorting in the list view?) they work again. (Can't find a way to reproduce that now. They are just stuck for me now, but worked for a while before.)
Oh I got it. It wraps the words to the next line, which is not visible (it goes "under" the background pattern). It starts wrapping the text about 2/5 from the right edge, so you might want to fix that.
I hope you undertand but this site can't run without any incomes. So if you block ads then you have to watch that "donate" link (and of cause you are allowed to donate/help us)
well i get only "WARNING: This site may NOT be suitable for people with" in firefox and then the text is to the right of the pic,
but when i checked in internet explorer i got "WARNING: This site may NOT be suitable for people with photosensitive epilepsy!" but then it's placed ON the picture so i think you should try to do something with the div's :/ oh and a question: is it possible to get :/
oh it cuts because of what i write srry for the tripple post then
anyway continuation this time :
is it possible to get :/ this as a smiley like these to put in comments?
The site has been running r e a l l y slowly at last 3 months...
Now it's fixed. \o/
Finally I found the blunder in my code. At the same time I optimized indexes in MySQL. Now the site is running smoothly again and even the download speed returned to the normal. \o/
Hey, maybe it's an idea, concerning everytime you post new things like a loop and stuff to this site.
Maybe it's better to post one loop, one music video, one humor piece and one anime piece.
So that everyone gets something that they like, since some people prefer loops over music videos.
You're trying to make more money by showing more ads, but there's like five flashes with a blank preview picture on the main page... You have to do something, too.
If you want money, then maintaining a web page is not the way to go... You have to do it for the love of it.
Server upgraded to newest Debian system and it was made only to save the site. PHP module broke up and everything faild. That was really really horrible!
Anyway, I managed to upgrade the system into new one and the site is online again.
BUT: This was not a plan so there may be some parts that are not working! Report them for me if you notice any! It's really important for me.
(there was 100% backup file from last night but I thought this would be a faster way to get the site back to online again as soon as possible)
We have upgraded our server to ~5X bigger one. This one should carry the site a loooooooooong way.
The old one was also good but the server provider didn't like our bandwidth usage and we would have to pay double the normal. That's too much so we bought bigger server from another provider.
8 cores, 8GB ram, RAID1 HDDs... ah this is nice system.
It may take some time to optimize the software to the best but even now you can't get the utilization over 30% even at the peaks.
Little test support for the site: if you are onboard a fail boat like I am and you can't even write the password right to login while in commenting screen, the login forms boxes don't show correctly due the error message.
I've had this little tune playing in my head the whole day, but I can't remember where I heard it. I think it was here, and someone commented it had a sample from Stevie Wonder's Superwoman...
Aawww, man, both those were sampled from the song "superstition"...
Anyway, the search should return the matching comments sorted by date ... and show a link to the associated flash like this page has the comment number, name and date. On a smaller font.
I was in a hurry to hear the song playing inside my head, so I had to make my own version:
http://cubicle.fi/~cube/superwoman.mp3
Also, I typed the site's name "fagobah" on the browser's address bar by accident earlier. Sorry about that.
I'd like to know, roughly, how long it takes for a file to get accepted by you and then uploaded.
I uploaded a few files maybe 5 weeks ago, not yet here:P But I didn't have a membership by then so I guess it was because of that. But now I uploaded one of my own flashes, week ago or so, yet not up. It was a bit nsfw, didn't include that in the tag, maybe that's why? But I'd like to know so I won't upload doubles because of missing nsfw tag in info.
1-60 days usually but it can take longer (yes I'm sort of lazy ;).
Files are updated (mostly) in random order and that's why it's impossible to say when some file will pop up.
With nsfw content I can also delay the accepting or even reject them. "No 'adult only' content! [H]" is still valid. H games etc. are usually rejected immediately.
And of course... if the "flash" is just a picture with sound -> reject. Some simple motion tween -> reject. "music player" -> reject. Some other sort of crap -> reject.
ps. right now there's long list waiting to be accepted.
ALSO, the description for the gallery comments page has been bugging me for a while. Just some minor typos, but fixing them would help me sleep better at night.
0-50 days. Usually it'll take week or a month (or sometimes it can take even longer ).
I'm still testing and working with the new update system and maybe some day I can make it faster. The biggest problem is the thumbnail pictures. There's no way to generate them in the server. Basically I have to download all new files to my own computer and generate the pictures before they can be added to the front page. That's why we have somewhat large buffer/delay. (I won't do it every day...)

I'll add "Comments" column later...
yay let 12 year olds utter their thoughts about the loops that they dont understand.>-(
Guess your traffic here must be high, might be able to help you with a second server.
Thanks, but no thanks. I belive this server/system will carry the load even if the number of visitors would double or 10x current.
"utter their thoughts about the loops that they dont understand."
Well.. I can't prevent that...
(there isn't any omniscient)
watchers are under 10
Still...
I don't think the childrens would pay any attention even if I put warnings.
Warnings may save you from any angry parent in a lawsuit, though that's not a big problem in Finland i guess.
By the way how's the work going in the NSFW project.
Good work with the site so far
Still, a NSWF / not suitable for people with epilepsy or under 15 years of age marking should erase the possibility of angry parents.
I can't wait what is next.
And more finnish flashes kiitos.
It's only ~4 letters so it's easy to fill.
>>#10
This is the "next".
I optimized the database and pages should respond faster. Well.. It was fast, but now it should be even faster... maybe too fast? >-(
Also some structure modification had done. So pleace tell me if there is some bugs.
I found some silk mauls under my pillow and a couple of spiders are in the ceiling.
Do you hate it? Is it annoying?
Freeback is appreciated.
Thanks though! I love Dagobah!

There is automated script that process the updates and the script is controlled by the users.
More visitor/hits lead to faster and larger updates. So basically, It's up to you!
Well... I haven't test it yet.
It's designed by Anssu.
"DAGOBAH"-banner will be replaced after competition.
Better than older? Hell yeah.
Now I have to create all of them in my own computer so if there will be some new flashes without pictures, (don't) blame me.
...anyway. Do you like them?
Thanks!
I didn't notice there was column missing.
(fixed)
Thanks to you, Sir! :D

"latest comments" and comment rss fixed:
Filters, \" -> " and spaces.
"If news, navigation and filters are in similar boxes"
And the boxes are different colored. Navigation is always blue.
"posting annoying comments even if they go unnoticed"
Well.. At least I'll notice them.
"low contrast when black text is over a dark brown background"
I didn't decided that.
'I didn\'t decided that.
But i did!
Good site tho, have been procrastinating here many hours on several occasions. ;)
(I didn't add any "news" about this feature though...)
More info coming soon...
They are just stuck for me now, but worked for a while before.)
hmm... That's true... but... I have no clue why. >-(
Edit:
FIXED
There was parenthesis () missing. I can't understand how it worked before. >-(
BTW, did winner actually "win" something?
Merry Christmas!
"WARNING: This site may NOT be suitable for people with photosensitive epilepsy!"
Also, I'd like to add the idea that perhaps the latest comment of every .swf should be displayed in List?
Sorry but I have been busy...
I'll check those right away.
(there is queue so it may take some time before they appear it the page)
but when i checked in internet explorer i got "WARNING: This site may NOT be suitable for people with photosensitive epilepsy!" but then it's placed ON the picture so i think you should try to do something with the div's :/ oh and a question: is it possible to get :/

is it possible to get :/ this as a smiley like these
Well.. That's IE6. >-(
I'll fix it later.
New smiley... hmmm... maybe...
Now it's fixed. \o/
Finally I found the blunder in my code. At the same time I optimized indexes in MySQL. Now the site is running smoothly again and even the download speed returned to the normal. \o/
(and the ie6 bug #53 fixed)
Maybe it's better to post one loop, one music video, one humor piece and one anime piece.
So that everyone gets something that they like, since some people prefer loops over music videos.
Well.. Thanks for the idea. I'll consider if it's possible to create. Right now I don't have enought time for that.
Thanks for considering.
"I'll consider" always means "no".
Well.. To be honest I'm sketching a new update system but I can't promise anything right now.
#64 - Can you tell anything about the new update system?
Well... No. I can't tell you anything right now.
(One thing that I can tell you: This may take some time ... time that I don't have)
After: "\o/ Merry Christmas \o/" (in news) you can see white 15x15 box. Right click and deselect "play" or "loop".
(removed the running number at the beginning of the feed title)
If you want money, then maintaining a web page is not the way to go... You have to do it for the love of it.
I have been developing new features few days now and just optimized databases (speed up again).
and read #7:
http://dagobah.biz/flash/merry_christmas_from_valve.swf/comm ents
Anyway, I managed to upgrade the system into new one and the site is online again.
BUT: This was not a plan so there may be some parts that are not working! Report them for me if you notice any! It's really important for me.

Wut???
You mean the red text that tells you that you failed? It wasn't there but Carabia wanted it.
Just don't typo. That's all.
Edit:
It was only for firefox and IE. Fixed now.
I've had this little tune playing in my head the whole day, but I can't remember where I heard it. I think it was here, and someone commented it had a sample from Stevie Wonder's Superwoman...
... But how to find the comment!
http://dagobah.biz/flash/Bounce_em.swf
http://dagobah.biz/f lash/osaka-escalator.swf
And yes, I have been thinking how to create that search. Should the search show all the comments or flash-files?
Anyway, the search should return the matching comments sorted by date ... and show a link to the associated flash like this page has the comment number, name and date. On a smaller font.
I was in a hurry to hear the song playing inside my head, so I had to make my own version:

you guys should add platform racer 2 cuz i want to play it but all the game websites other than this 1 get blocked please add it.
If you want some flash into this page, just upload it. (ok I added that one into upcoming but this is for future)
Ask in:
http://dagobah.biz/flash/loveazusababy.swf/comments

Date and size information is usually unnecessary so they are moved to right.
At the same time I combined the rating and votes. Only Opera shows this one as I wanted. Sorry users of other browsers (96%).
New highlight system also helps you to spot the best ones without calculatin numbers. You wont get it wrong.
Comment search. Minimum 3 letters and limited to 150 results. Need more?
That's all today. Let me know if you find some holes or unworking features. I hope you enjoy.
Tell your friends about us and spread the word "Dagobah" to every dark corner of the Earth!
"Within the comment search, there should be a function to search by author. Ideally, maybe even a profile page for those who have registered."
Made the first part... second... maybe later.
What happens if I re-upload with same file name?
Same filename -> new one got renamed.
Can we hear some reasons for that?
